A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Many of the years Associate Members team and 4BBB matches have now been played at a variety of clubs within the LDUGC and as ever our thanks go to those clubs for giving the course over to us for the day.
All the Inter Union Scratch and Junior team matches have been played, and the Scratch team finished fourth in the league and the Junior team have finished in fifth place.
On 22 August I was invited for lunch at Ganton Golf Club to watch the final day of the Yorkshire Amateur Championship. The first two days were played in testing conditions resulting in a wide range of scores with the top 32 qualifying for the final 36 holes.
The LDUGC won the 'Inter District Plate' for the best two aggregate scores over the first two rounds by Bailey Hird (Cookridge Hall) and Nathan Ali (Cookridge Hall). In the final round Bailey Hird took the eventual winner a third play-off hole to be championship runner up.
The Knockouts finals were held at my club, Wetherby on 25 August, hosting the Foursomes, Scratch, Nett and Senior finals and the results are on the website. The Junior knockout final had been held at Howley Hall on 3 September where Wetherby played Waterton Park and the match was won by Wetherby.
On 27 August Wetherby Golf Club hosted the First Division Team Championship where seventeen teams entered and Cookridge were well deserved winners on the day. 'The Oliver Swithenbank Trophy' for the best gross score on the day was won by Bradley Schmulian from Headingley with a 4 under par 69.
The YIDU Junior Team Championship was held at Pike Hills on 29 August and our LDU team finished in a creditable fourth place.
On 8 September Cleckheaton Golf Club hosted the YIDU Team Championship with the current champions being the LDU team. Darren Walton the Scratch Team Manager had a difficult choice to make in picking the six man team for the LDU as the squad had all played well throughout the season.
However, the current team comprised Saul Guilford, Sam Claypole, Tai Naylor, George Heath, Nathan Ali and Bailey Hird and I am delighted to confirm that the LDU team have retained the championship plate with a winning score over 36 holes of 5 over par, ten shots better than the runners up.
Darren Walton proudly received the trophy and thanked all those involved in the organisation of the day. Well done to the whole team.
